About

I teach the language school happens in.

I teach English as an Additional Language to middle schoolers at The American International School of Vilnius. My students follow the same curriculum as everyone else, so my lessons focus on the reading, writing, listening and speaking they need to keep up with it.

Beyond my own classroom, I look after the wider EAL programme. I run WIDA, MAP and STAR Renaissance assessments to place students and track their growth, plan with subject teachers so language support shows up inside content classes, and keep an eye on whether every learner is actually receiving the accommodations they are entitled to.

For my master's thesis I studied translanguaging in international schools, interviewing administrators, teachers, students and parents about the languages students bring with them. The short version of what I found: those languages are a resource, not a problem, and I teach accordingly.
